She was just 19 years old. (Photo by Emma McIntyre/Getty Images) News of Hottle’s death comes courtesy of her father, Josh Hottle, who shared the news in a Facebook post before confirming it to TMZ: In his Facebook video, Josh stated that Kaylee had been killed in a car accident, and he was preparing to fly to Maryland to identify her body. “I am taking a flight that I never would like to take,” he tearfully told his audience. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2007, Kaylee was raised in Austin, where she attended the Texas School for the Deaf. She started acting at 9 years old with a commercial for Glide, a video messaging app popular within the deaf and hearing-impaired communities. In 2021, she starred alongside Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, and Alexander Skarsgard in Godzilla vs. Kong. Skarsgard and Hall earned praise for learning ASL in order to communicate with Kaylee on set. “It’s her first movie,” Skarsgard raved to Junkee at the time. “It’s fascinating how comfortable she is in front of the camera and how quickly she takes notes from the director Adam [Wingard],” he continued, adding: “He’ll explain something and she’ll be like ‘got it, got it’ then she’ll just do it and everyone’s like, ‘The f–k?’ She’s so professional and … there’s so much going on on her face. Reading Time: 3 minutes This spring, Kendra Caldwell reportedly “cut off” contact with her parents. Now, Joseph Duggar’s in-laws are giving a deposition in his child molestation case in Florida. It seems doubtful that anything that the Caldwells have to say will be flattering towards Joseph. They reportedly lost their home as a direct result of aiding in turning him in. On Monday, July 20, Us Weekly got a hold of court records showing that Christina and Paul Caldwell will provide a deposition at the office of the Florida state attorney. According to the documents, the deposition can then be used “at trial, and/or for such other purposes as are allowed by law.” Interestingly, the deposition will be provided to Joseph’s attorney. It is widely rumored that the Caldwell’s played some role in turning in Joseph to authorities, though that remains unconfirmed. Given everything that we do know, however, it seems likely that this will be a contentious, if not downright hostile, deposition. Joseph Duggar has been arrested for the alleged molestation of a 9-year-old girl. (Washington County Sheriff’s Office) In 2020, Joseph — in the midst of the early months of a deadly pandemic, no less — went on a family vacation to Florida. During that vacation, he allegedly molested a 9-year-old girl repeatedly, making excuses to sit beside her in order to touch her body, including her genitals. In March of 2026, the now teenage victim’s father called Joseph to confront him. He reportedly confessed, and confessed for a second time to a detective. Days before the start of spring, Joseph was arrested on charges of committing lewd and lascivious acts. Despite initially appearing remorseful and reports of multiple confessions, he has since entered a plea of “not guilty.” No one’s sure what that’s about just yet. That quickly changed. She seems to have sided with Joseph, even at the expense of the relationship with her parents. “I don’t know if it’s fear or naivete, but Kendra has totally sided with the Duggars and not her family,” a source told Us Weekly earlier this year. The insider bluntly summarized: “She is brainwashed.” That might not be a nice thing to say, but we’re talking about members of a pernicious cult. It’s accurate. By May of this year, reports said that Kendra was no longer speaking to her family. They had been seemingly given the boot from their home from their home due to this conflict with the Duggars. Insiders have claimed that the victim (who is, again, a child even now) is close to the Caldwells. When Josh was first exposed as a monster, the Duggars circled the wagons. Some even claimed that this was some sort of spiritual attack against their family. It appears that some in the Duggar family believe that to be the case again. That seems to include Kendra. While it is no doubt frightening to believe that there is an evil spiritual force that wants you, personally, harmed, it is not real. But as long as the Duggars believe that the devil is out to get them, they are easier to control. But on Monday, the legendary quarterback revealed that he has reunited with members of his clan this week, sharing a series of photos on Instagram that quickly caught the attention of fans. Aaron posted three pictures from what looked to be a family gathering, including separate shots with his mother, Darla Rodgers, his father, Ed Rodgers, and his brother Luke Rodgers. “Another bonding week #fam,” the four-time NFL MVP captioned the post. The images mark a dramatic turn in one of the NFL’s most talked-about family rifts. Rodgers has been publicly estranged from his parents and brothers for more than a decade. Her son, Shane, told Us Weekly on Monday, July 20 that “she’s strong through this.” He affirmed: “She’s got a good support network down there.” Though Shane lives in Florida, which is tied with southernmost Texas for being as far south as one can get in the continental US, he is referring to Jeana’s community in Southern California. “Colton, our younger brother, is there,” Shane detailed. “So she’s on the right path,” Shane assessed. “But you know, it’s tough for everybody,” he acknowledged about his mother’s diagnosis. “And we’re just trying to make sure she stays on her program,” Shane continued. He explains that this is “so she’s strong when this is done.” Shane isn’t the only one who feels optimistic about his mom’s chances. The life-saving treatments are so hard on her Kara, Shane’s sister, is also sounding confident about Jeana’s prognosis. “I think she’ll get cancer to bend to her will,” she suggested. Kara half-joked: “like she does with everything else in life.” She then affirmed: “We’re choosing to stay in that mindset.” Like Shane, Kara also dwells in Florida. Jeana’s cancer journey began months ago, when she discovered a painful spot on her tongue. It was not, as the family first assumed, friction from a tooth. Only after she went in for testing and got a biopsy were doctors able to confirm that she had “squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue.” Since the diagnosis, Jeana has undergone surgeries to remove both the cancer and select lymph nodes. However, the doctors observed that the cancer had already spread. As her GoFundMe notes, she has gone through weeks of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy. And a Phoenix Police Department report about his final days reveals a great deal about the circumstances that led to his tragic end. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images) Investigative records obtained by the New York Post allege Mauro spent four days using cocaine and drinking heavily with an exotic dancer before his death on April 23. The report states that Mauro and the woman remained inside a Florida residence for several days, repeatedly using cocaine and consuming alcohol. According to law enforcement documents cited by the outlet, the woman told investigators Mauro snorted a line of cocaine before suffering what appeared to be a medical emergency. She reportedly attempted CPR before calling 911. Emergency responders arrived at the home, but Mauro could not be revived. The newly released investigative details provide additional context surrounding Mauro’s death, which shocked the football world earlier this year. In June, the Maricopa County Medical Examiner ruled that Mauro died from the combined toxic effects of fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol, determining his death to be accidental. Toxicology findings showed the presence of all three substances in his system. Mauro entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2014 after playing college football at Stanford. Over the course of his professional career, he suited up for the Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, and Denver Broncos. He appeared in 80 regular-season games, making 40 starts while recording 130 tackles, five sacks, 13 quarterback hits, five passes defended, and two forced fumbles before playing his final NFL season in 2021. News of Mauro’s death prompted tributes from former teammates and the organizations he played for, with many remembering him as a respected teammate and dedicated professional. The latest report paints a heartbreaking picture of the circumstances leading up to his death while underscoring the dangers associated with illicit drug use. Although investigators have now disclosed additional details from their investigation, the medical examiner has already ruled Mauro’s death an accident. The tweet echoes comments that Portnoy made on a recent Barstool podcast. “[This is] a legacy that is being lame-ified,” Portnoy said (via Page Six). “You don’t want to see him mixed up in lowbrow TikTok flag football leagues in Saudi Arabia or whatever it is. For Angie Katsanevas and Shawn Trujillo, it means the end of their marriage. After three decades together, they two have separated. But why? Page Six reports that, according to multiple inside sources, Katsanevas and Trujillo have separated. The couple married in June of 1999. They also share a 15-year-old daughter, Elektra. However, they are no longer together romantically and may be on the path to a more formal divorce. Though Page Six only received confirmation of this news on Monday, July 20, there were hints as early as last month. Last month was June. It was 27 years since the two married. Katsanevas did not appear to post any public acknowledgment of this milestone. Certainly not on her Instagram page — which, as with most Housewives, is her primary social media account. Keep in mind that it’s not as though she was on a social media hiatus. In June, for example, she did post — even a post about how she and Trujillo met in the ’90s when she booked a hair appointment. (If you’re unfamiliar, the two co-founded Lunatic Fringe Salon the same year that they married.) Will the breakup play out on ‘RHOSLC’ Season 7? Season 7 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has yet to premiere. It began filming back in late February. Production reportedly wrapped in late May. With that in mind, it’s almost impossible to say whether whatever relationship friction played into their separation will appear on Season 7. It’s possible that they had fights or disagreements or some scandal the whole time. It’s also possible that someone watching the show but not following news about the cast will be none the wiser about the split until the Reunion airs. Season 4 was Katsanevas’ first time as a full Housewife. It was also the season that saw her grapple with a rumor that Trujillo was cheating on her. (Specifically, the affair rumor claimed that he was hooking up with men on the side. Both partners took issue with the infidelity claim, but affirmed that they weren’t going to go to a homophobic place with their denials.) Now, in 2025, we did see some friction between Trujillo and Katsanevas — with the former accusing the latter of being a little too intense and unwilling to unwind. It’s possible that running a business together and being parents caused them to take time away from themselves as a couple. But we don’t yet know the official cause of the separation. Reading Time: 2 minutes Over the weekend, professional misogynists Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested in Miami The brothers were taken into custody after British authorities requested their extradition to face a new wave of criminal charges, including rape, human trafficking, assault, and additional sex offense allegations involving four new alleged victims. The Tates, who hold dual U.S. and U.K. citizenship, are expected to appear before a federal judge in Florida as the extradition process begins. Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service revealed that the latest charges stem from evidence gathered by Bedfordshire Police during an ongoing investigation. According to prosecutors, the new allegations involve incidents dating from 2010 through 2017 and bring the total number of alleged victims in the U.K. case to seven. The accusations include rape, trafficking for sexual exploitation, assault, and offenses involving indecent images of children and extreme pornography. The Tate brothers have denied all allegations against them. Their attorney, Joseph McBride, blasted the arrest, calling the case politically motivated and insisting his clients are innocent. “This arrest is based upon a slander campaign,” McBride said, arguing the brothers are being unfairly targeted. The latest arrest marks another chapter in years of legal troubles surrounding the Tate brothers. Andrew and Tristan were first arrested in Romania in late 2022 as prosecutors investigated allegations of human trafficking, rape, and operating an organized criminal group that allegedly exploited women. Romanian authorities eventually allowed the brothers to leave the country while those proceedings continued, and they relocated to Florida earlier this year. The Romanian investigation remains unresolved, and both brothers continue to deny wrongdoing. The U.K. separately announced criminal charges against the pair in 2025 involving other alleged victims. Those charges remained pending while British authorities pursued extradition. A federal court in Miami will determine whether the legal requirements for extradition have been satisfied. If the court approves Britain’s request, the ultimate decision on surrendering the brothers to U.K. authorities will fall to the U.S. Secretary of State under the extradition treaty between the two countries. Despite years of investigations and mounting legal challenges in multiple jurisdictions, Andrew Tate has maintained a sizable online following, even after being banned from several major social media platforms for violating policies related to hate speech and misogynistic content. For now, however, the brothers’ attention appears focused on the courtroom rather than social media, as they prepare to fight extradition while continuing to deny every allegation against them. Reading Time: 2 minutes To hear Kroy Biermann or Kim Zolciak tell it, the other is an unfit parent. This has meant that the court battle has dragged on and on. That’s expensive. The former The Real Housewives of Atlanta star narrowly avoided jail time over a relatively small court payment. (Photo Credit: Dave Kotinsky/Getty Images for Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway) $2,535 is a lot to owe for most people … TMZ reports that Zolciak had been instructed by a Georgia judge to turn over $2,535 in outstanding fees. These were court fees. Specifically, the 4-figure sum was to pay a guardian ad litem appointed as part of her long-running divorce from Kroy Biermann. (Guardian at litems can fulfill multiple roles, but generally represent minors or others who cannot advocate for themselves during specific legal cases.) The judge’s order was not a mere suggestion. If Zolciak did not pay the outstanding sum, she could be jailed. Now, TMZ reports, Zolciak has paid the entire balance. According to sources close to her, she made the payment in full on July 14. Now, things have gone awry in our society when a small (or even large) unpaid debt could rob someone of their freedom, even temporarily. There must be other measures that the court could take, if someone refused to pay as ordered, before resorting to something as extreme as jail — a punishment that only costs money. That said, we can acknowledge that for Zolciak, this was not a threat of a debtor’s prison. We are glad that the matter is resolved. This didn’t need to be so bitter or so ugly It seems that Zolciak’s issue with the guardian ad litem had to do, at least in part, with dissatisfaction with their priorities. The guardian was supposed to interview all four minor children as well as both parents. Zolciak argued that the guardian did not pay sufficient attention to her allegations of abuse or to her concerns about her ex-husband as a parent. Both parents believe that the other is an unfit parent. Their court battle has extended for years. However, the guardian’s responsibility is to the minor children — not to assuage the feelings of or advocate for either ex. The involvement of the guardian ad litem is only one of many points of contention of Zolciak and her ex-husband. Zolciak’s eldest daughters, Brielle and Ariana, took Biermann’s last name as their own when their parents married. But Brielle recenly shared that she has not spoken with her father in a long time. The way that things are, she doesn’t even know if he will be part of her wedding. What has befallen this family is very sad. As you can see in the clip, Donald Trump’s eldest son is sitting and getting styled before making a public appearance. In the green room chair beside him is his teenage daughter, Kai Trump. Due to various cultural factors, Don Jr. seems to feel the need to explain why he is getting makeup on his face. (As if his father is not, famously, one of the most conspicuously made up men on the planet.) It is what he says in the clip that turns people’s stomachs. As you can see in the video, Don Jr. asks Kai if the makeup will “make me look sexy like you?” This was about two years ago, meaning that Kai was only 17 at the time. (She is currently 19.) Kai, who was focused on her phone at the time, did look up and laugh at her father’s remark. To be clear, this is not quite the same as Don Jr. saying something graphic about his daughter or something like that. He is attempting to crack a joke because he feels insecure about the world seeing him wear makeup. But it’s also very understandable, given the context, why so many people find this video unsettling or downright disgusting. ‘If Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her’ Naturally, people are comparing Don Jr.’s remarks to those of his father. Donald Trump, who has been found liable for both the sexual abuse and ensuing defamation of writer E. Jean Carroll, is a notorious monster. He is mentioned countless times in the Epstein Files, and not incidentally. Additionally, Trump Sr. is extremely well known — long before he got into politics to dismantle the United States and sell it for scrap — for seeming to lust after one of his own daughters. “If Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her,” is not a compliment. It is a repulsive statement made by a repulsive man. As we mentioned earlier, this clip is a couple of years old. Many of the commenters are aware of that, but perhaps missed the video at the time. (You may recall that something similar happened with James Woods recently, with a new generation of people discovering the allegations against him.) It isn’t just a grotesque reminder that the Trumps are a creepy bunch. This is also a reminder of their brazen hypocrisy. With the backing of Don Jr. and others, the Trump campaign and now the Trump regime are cracking down on human rights at a federal level, targeting the LGBTQ+ community after labeling them “groomers.” It is a vague label when used as a weapon like this, distorted beyond its original meaning. But traditionally giving age-inappropriate compliments to a minor teenager could be textbook grooming, even if that was not Don Jr.’s intention. One of the hallmarks of conservatism is the belief that there is an in-group whom laws should protect but not restrict, and an out-group whom laws should restrict and not protect. She has expressed, among other things, a belief that perhaps Josh and Joseph were victims themselves as kids. Her mom, Deanna, joined in for part of the interview. Together, the two called for every member of their extended family to be investigated. Good idea? She explained that she believes that an investigation would be appropriate “just because of everything that has happened.” Deanna confirmed: “Everybody should be checked out in that family.” Amy chimed in to agree, suggesting that Josh and Joseph’s evil may be informed by their life experiences. “It stems from somewhere,” she shared. Deanna also added that she believes that her niblings “should be in therapy.” Amy shared that her coucins have probably “suppressed a whole lot” of what they have endured. She then admitted: “I don’t understand how someone becomes a monster overnight.” That is another clear reference to Josh and to Joseph. “It blows my mind when I hear about these double lives and how quickly they can make a decision that’s so heartbreaking,” Amy stated, echoing similar remarks that she has made. ‘You don’t protect children’ Additionally, Amy confirmed that she has a lot of distance with most of her extended family. She explained that this is because Jim Bob and most of his kids still believe “in IBLP and you don’t protect children.” For this reason, they cannot be in her life. Deanna, meanwhile, said that she’s relatively open to communicating with Jim Bob again. But she’d need “boundaries” in place, and it would need to be on her terms. She also shared that her brother tried to make nice last year. “I said, “It’s not the time or place to talk right now,’” Deanna revealed. There is sometimes a concept that suggests that all who prey upon children were once victims of such crimes themselves. This is not only untrue, but has the pernicious effect of making society suspicious of survivors of childhood sexual abuse. (In reality, the vast majority of survivors do not commit such offenses as adults.) We would not expect Amy or Deanna to know this. Though they are not part of the family cult, they are still part of society’s fringes. Amy herself holds extreme and bigoted beliefs and this surely clouds the lens through which she views the world, including her disgraced cousins. An investigation into the welfare of the children of that family would be a good idea. It would be an even better one if we lived in a society with laws that actually protect children more effectively. But then, if we did, the Duggars as we know them wouldn’t exist in the first place. Amy’s right about her cousins needing to be in therapy. Real therapy. Even if Josh and Joseph were innocents, all of those children have suffered from growing up in an abusive cult. In his announcement, he shared that members of the military over the age of 30 will receive annual screenings for their testosterone levels. Those under the age of 30 may voluntarily submit to the screenings. “Warfighters,” one of the silliest terms that we’ve heard in recent years, could then receive supplementary testosterone in case they are found lacking. But, more than that, it sure sounded like he was joking about military members committing rapes and other acts of sexual assault, fueled by some sort of “haze” of testosterone. Meanwhile, his fellow panelists seemed to squirm in their seats, unsure of what to say but deeply uncomfortable. Reading Time: 2 minutes Back in February of 2025, beloved actress Michelle Trachtenberg passed away unexpectedly. The star of such popular films and television series as EuroTrip, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Gossip Girl was just 39 years old. Trachtenberg got her start as a child star in films such as Harriet the Spy, and now, her co-star in that film, Rosie O’Donnell, is opening up about Michelle’s final days. O’Donnell said she remained in contact with Trachtenberg during her final years and tried to support her as her health declined. “In the last few years, when she was in pretty bad shape, she would call me, and we would talk,” O’Donnell said. Concerned about what she was witnessing, O’Donnell even reached out to Trachtenberg’s mother for answers. “I also called her mother to find out what was going on, and her mother told me what was happening, and how long it had been happening,” she said. According to O’Donnell, the two repeatedly made plans to spend time together, but those visits never came to fruition. “We were supposed to see each other three or four times, and she just never showed up — sometimes at restaurants, other times at my house where we’d had someone prepare the whole meal,” she recalled. “I would call her and go, ‘Honey, are you heading over?’ and she’d go, ‘Was that today?’ She was not in good shape.” Looking back, O’Donnell admitted she wishes she had been able to do more for Trachtenberg. “I tried to help her as much as I could, but she was inaccessible toward the end, and it was tragic.” She also reflected on Trachtenberg’s remarkable talent, remembering the actress as an exceptionally gifted child performer. “She was a real genius child who was able to memorize anything, pick up her lines, you could improvise with her, and she was connected and right there.” O’Donnell added that Trachtenberg had once been incredibly close with her mother, Lana, and her ballerina sister before, she believes, substance abuse changed the trajectory of her life. O’Donnell said Trachtenberg’s death was especially difficult because she never expected it to happen. “I didn’t think that she would die.” She ended with a sobering reminder about the dangers of addiction. “With most people suffering from addiction, their loved ones think that they’ll survive it, but you can die from your addiction to drugs or alcohol, and it happens too often that it must be taken seriously.” Clearly, Trachtenberg’s death still weighs heavily on O’Donnell’s mind. Even his face on some people’s passports! Donald Trump’s latest tribute to himself is in on American money. And no, we don’t just mean skyrocketing prices. The commemorative token is a vanity $1 gold coin featuring his face, ostensibly to celebrate 250 years of America. It is a $1 gold coin, The Guardian details. One side is fairly straightforward, reading “United States of America” and “One Dollar” around the Great Seal of the United States. The other side bears an approximation of Trump’s face, giving him more hair and less face-and-neck than the real thing. Next to his stern countenance it conspicuously reads “In God We Trust.” That’s on all money, Constitution be damned, but it’s a little brazen when placed right beside Trump’s approximate likeness. The first has to be that no living President in United States history has been depicted on money in this manner while alive. It’s also pretty specifically illegal. In 1866, the Thayer Amendment outlawed the appearance of any living person on “the bonds, securities, notes, or postal currency of the United States.” However, there was a close call on a half-dollar coin in 1926, depicting then-President Calvin Coolidge alongside President George Washington. Coolidge was alive at the time, but it was a commemorative coin — seemingly an exception. In 2005, the Presidential $1 Coin Act specifically prohibited any coin from bearing “the image of a living former or current President.” Won’t someone stop him? A couple of years ago, SCOTUS effectively declared that Trump was a king of sorts. In recent years, the conservative majority on the court have consistently ruled that Trump, specifically, has broad executive powers and is largely immune to prosecution for acts taken in office. It turns out that Nixon was kind of right: in the eyes of these six individuals, if the president does it, it’s not illegal. (Of course, this is the same crowd who said that Biden couldn’t forgive student loans. These broad executive powers don’t seem to apply to every POTUS.) We mention this to point out that Trump is doing this because he doesn’t expect to get into any trouble for it. And his cronies are helping him for the same reason. One funny tidbit about these hideous little tokens is that they are not, in fact, gold coins. Despite the initial concept, the revised version is merely gold-finished. Just like Trump’s hideous redecoration of the Oval Office and other aspects of the still-standing portions of the White House. (To be fair, at the current value of gold, there would have been a rush to acquire these and then melt them down — however illegally — if they had been solid gold. Alas.) Like the Reflecting Pool’s Greenwater scandal, this appears to be heavy-handed symbolism about Trump and his deleterious impact upon the United States in every way, shape, and form. It’s likely that no one can stop him from printing all of the ugly gold-finished coins that he wants. Perhaps, as with the meme coin that he has pumped and dumped to ten-figure profits, his sycophants and stans will rush to collect them. During a recent interview, she shared that she has actually spoken to Joseph’s alleged victim. Amy says that she offered encouragement and praise to the girl, who was only 9 for the series of 2020 incidents. She also expressed dismay that Joseph could confess but then take it back and force this girl to endure his trial. On ‘The Sarah Fraser Show,’ Amy Duggar opened up about speaking to her cousin’s teenage accuser. (Image Credit: YouTube) ‘You are such a strong person’ During her recent interview on The Sarah Fraser Show, Amy revealed that she has spoken with the girl at the center of Joseph’s criminal case in Florida. In 2020, Joseph went on a family vacation. Traveling between states to vacation during the first month of a deadly pandemic is, sadly, the least horrific detail of this story. The unnamed accuser, who is now in her early teens, was only 9 years old when she says that Joseph repeatedly molested her during the trip. It was only earlier this year, it seems, when she told her family. Her father called Joseph, who reportedly confessed twice to the despicable crime — though he has since pleaded not guilty in court. “I just gave her hope. I said, ‘This doesn’t have to destroy you. It really truly doesn’t,’” Amy reported of having spoken with the girl. “I told her that if she ever just needed a safe place to talk, that I’m here.” According to Amy, she also praised the girl’s strength for coming forward. “You speaking out and you being so honest and vulnerable,” she correctly assessed. Amy added that “knowing the backlash and knowing the people that would turn their backs on you and not believe you, you are such a strong person.” Admittedly, we’re unclear on why Amy and the girl spoke. It seems unlikely that any courtroom wants to hear about a relative of the defendant speaking to the victim ahead of trial. However, she’s right when she says that coming forward takes tremendous courage. Particularly if, as many suspect, the girl is from a similarly insular, fundamentalist social circle where girls are second-class at best, and where consent is not really taught or understood. (Image Credit: YouTube) ‘I don’t understand …’ Like many, Amy expressed dismay at how Joseph reportedly confessed more than once to the crimes but then entered a plea of not guilty when it came to his arraignment. “I don’t understand how you can admit to it and say you did it, and then backtrack and change it,” she expressed. Amy continued: “And be like, ‘Well, I might have said that, but I didn’t mean that.’” Obviously, many confessions are coerced out of people, some of whom may lack legal representation and may have been subjected to sleep deprivation. Joseph reportedly first confessed to the child’s father and then, over the phone, to police. That’s not quite the same scenario as someone kept up all night and then at risk of losing their job if they show up late to work the next day, believing that they can leave an interrogation room if they just sign a false confession. Some on social media have speculated that perhaps the child and her family are known to the broader Duggar family, and not only to Joseph. If so, that might explain why Amy was allowed to speak with her. Were the Duggars unknown to the family except for Joseph, that could still happen, but would seem less likely. As for the “not guilty” plea … one can only assume that either the reality of losing everything set in, or Joseph simply spoke with an attorney who (in all fairness, doing their job) told him the realities of prison. Without knowing more, it’s hard to say whether his previous confessions can be effectively used against Joseph in court. It seems likely that any defense attorney would move to preclude the prosecution from even mentioning them, let alone entering any recordings into evidence, playing them for the jury, or bringing testimony about the confessions from those who heard them. Somerset Maugham’s classic novel of the same name. She continued to work steadily in the decades that followed, and in 1989, she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work as Daniel Day-Lewis’ mother in My Left Foot. Fricker would achieve a new level of fame three years later with her unforgettable role in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. As the so-called “Pigeon Lady,” Fricker brought warmth and unexpected emotional complexity to one of the biggest holiday blockbusters of all time. While she’s certainly starred in more highly acclaimed films, Fricker’s work in Home Alone 2 lives on for the millions who still revisit the movie annually. Several more high-profile Hollywood profiles would follow, including roles as Mike Meyer’s mother in So I Married an Axe Murderer and Matthew McConaughey’s assistant in A Time to Kill. She’s fighting for her youngest kid with ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen. Now, a damning leak from DCFS seeks to label her kids “abused, neglected, or dependent” and appoint a guardian ad litem. (Photo Credit: Mike Coppola/Getty Images) The leak paints a portrait of an overwhelmed and immature mother On Wednesday, July 15, TMZ reported on a leaked filing by the Utah Attorney General on behalf of the state’s Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS). The agency responsible for child safety wants all three of the Hululebrity’s kids declared as “abused, neglected, or dependent.” This is a necessarily broad classification. What does that mean for them? For one thing, it would require a court order of protective supervision over the children. It would also require the appointment of a guardian ad litem to watch after the children’s best interests. Taylor shares both 8-year-old Indy and 5-year-old Ocean with Tate. She and Dakota share 2-year-old Ever. Interestingly, the leaked petition only appears to contain information about Taylor, though both she and Dakota have had home visits and interviews. DCFS documented points of concern, including an incident when Taylor allegedly “stormed out” of her home, taking her kids with her, seemingly angry after social media messages. Taylor also allegedly felt that she was “being treated unfairly” due to her reality TV fame. Other times, she allegedly “became escalated and dysregulated” and was comforted by her young children while DCFS spoke to her about programs, interventions, and counseling that she could undergo. These reports, when summarized, might say that Taylor is emotionally immature and sometimes seems more focused upon how these circumstances impact her than upon how they impact her children. 8-year-old Indy should not have to be doing the work of a parent On Thursday, July 16, TMZ published additional information from the Utah DCFS filing. Again, only about Taylor. This update included concern about Taylor’s mental health, though Taylor reportedly assured caseworkers that she is not suicidal. Taylor did reportedly tell caseworkers that they “should know who killed her if she ends up dead because she felt no one believes her.” Another point of concern is that 8-year-old Indy participated in childcare for 2-year-old Ever, including preparing bottles and changing diapers. (It may be some surprise to eldest kids, and especially eldest daughters, but these are actually the responsibilities of parents, not siblings.) DCFS also expressed concern about the emotional and psychological impact that having heard Dakota and Taylor fight was having upon the children. Taylor’s attorney told TMZ that this juvenile court filing is “a common step for families engaged in highly contentious, complex custody matters.” The attorney’s statement said that she “welcomes the added structure and oversight” and that she looks forward to “becoming the healthiest version of herself.” Additionally, a source close to Taylor emphasized that the leak of the report is not in the best interest of the kids — and, perhaps more damningly, delivers an incomplete picture. “It leaves out DCFS’s documented concerns about the other side [the kids’ fathers], which are on-record in district court and with law enforcement,” the insider lamented. “The juvenile court will weigh all of that in full.” When it comes to leaks in this case, Taylor seems to be on the receiving end of the bad press. Still, as sympathetic as she may be in many ways, the first priority must always be the well-being and safety of the children.
