Reading Time: 2 minutes Miley Cyrus is apparently ready to ditch her last name. And, surprisingly, her famous father has no problem with it. Billy Ray Cyrus addressed his daughter’s decision to drop their shared surname on Wednesday, and considering the pair’s complicated history, his reaction was about as supportive as it gets. And while fans were left wondering whether the name change had anything to do with her family, Billy Ray, 65, appears to be taking the whole thing in stride. On Wednesday, the country singer shared a throwback photo of himself with a young Miley and her brother, Braison Cyrus, while explaining that he has always called his daughter by her first name anyway. “Family means more than ever now,” Billy Ray wrote before explaining that he has always called his daughter simply “Miley.” He then revealed that he had spoken with her about the decision and told her he felt good about her going by her first name. Naturally, Billy Ray had a few famous examples to point to. He compared Miley’s move to legendary artists including Cher, Elvis, Prince, and the late Dolly Parton — all of whom managed to become household names without exactly needing a surname attached. Billy Ray even joked that he had once considered going by “Cyrus” himself before his record label apparently had other ideas. “I could have done something!!! Ha ha !!!” he wrote. So, no, Billy Ray doesn’t seem particularly offended that his daughter is stepping away from the family name professionally. That’s perhaps for the best, considering the father and daughter have spent years navigating a very public estrangement. Billy Ray and Miley’s relationship became strained following his 2022 divorce from Miley’s mother, Tish Cyrus. At one point, reports suggested Miley had little interest in repairing the relationship. But time, as it turns out, appears to have done some of its famous healing. The pair reunited in 2025, and Miley later acknowledged that she and her father had experienced “challenges” but said that family had become her priority. She also released the song “Secrets,” which she described as a peace offering for someone she had “lost for a time but always loved.” That someone was her dad. Reading Time: 2 minutes If you’ve listened to contemporary radio at all in recent months, then there’s a good chance that you’ve encountered Stella Lefty’s hit single “Boston.” It might be second only to Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” as the song of the summer — but many listeners feel like they’ve heard it somewhere before. That doesn’t mean that the young singer-songwriter intentionally ripped off Kahan, of course. But whatever the case, this probably isn’t how Stella had hoped to kick off her career. She has her first major hit — the song currently sits at number two on the Billboard charts, behind, of course, “Choosin’ Texas.” But across social media, Stella is earning more scorn than praise at the moment. Her situation is not helped by the fact that her dad is worth over $6 billion and made much of that wealth from AI — tech that’s not especially beloved by folks working in creative fields at the moment. Lefty’s career trajectory has drawn comparisons to other “nepo babies” currently churning out mainstream hits, especially Gracie Abrams. But at least Gracie’s dad, J.J. Abrams, is a beloved filmmaker. To many, her rise seems a little more organic due to the fact that she’s the daughter of a writer-director, not an entrepreneur. Is that assessment fair? Not necessarily, but as we’re often reminded in 2026, public opinion is rarely governed by logic. Of course, for most of her detractors, Stella’s greatest sin is her alleged act of plagiarism. Lefty may not have helped her case when she granted a co-songwriting credit to Kahan, but if that move enabled her to avoid a messy lawsuit, then it was probably a smart one. After all, nepo babies are the norm throughout the entertainment industry today. In fact, it’s hard to think of a current rising star who doesn’t have at least one parent with their own Wikipedia page. But taking advantage of inherited wealth and privilege is one thing, and ripping off a beloved recent hit song is quite another. “When I was writing the song, I wasn’t thinking about Noah Kahan. I was literally thinking about nothing at all,” Stella told Vanity Fair (via Variety). But as many online sleuths have pointed out, Kahan seems to be on her mind quite a bit. In videos posted to YouTube, she’s covered several of his songs — including “Stick Season” — and she’s often cited him as one of her biggest influences. So yeah … consciously or otherwise, Stella seems to have been influenced by Noah. As her signature song approaches 200 million streams on Spotify, it seems that Ms. Lefty’s fans are unconcerned about “Boston”‘s origins. Andrews, 48, revealed that she and husband Jarret Stoll are still hoping to welcome a second child, despite years of fertility struggles and a devastating surrogate miscarriage. Still, anyone expecting Andrews to quietly accept defeat clearly doesn’t know her very well. “For some reason, I don’t take ‘no’ or bad visits very well,” she said. “I said to my doctor the other day, ‘I’m not done.’” Andrews and Stoll, a former NHL player, became parents to son Mack in July 2023 after a lengthy fertility journey that included IVF and ultimately surrogacy. The couple’s dream of giving Mack a sibling suffered a devastating blow in May 2025, when they learned that their surrogate had miscarried. Andrews subsequently spoke openly about the loss, refusing to sugarcoat an experience that so many couples endure privately. “I’m not going to freaking candy-coat this anymore,” she previously said of her decision to be candid about her fertility struggles (via Us Weekly). Now, she insists she isn’t finished trying. “I’m very, very interested in continuing this whole thing and seeing what I can do,” Andrews said. The broadcaster acknowledged that she’s faced plenty of difficult chapters in her life before — and she’s managed to come through them. “Listen, I feel like I’ve been through a lot before, and I’ve come out on the other side,” she said. “So I’m ready to rewrite a little history with this too.” For Erin, that history includes another major battle. September marks 10 years since Andrews was diagnosed with cervical cancer after a routine screening in 2016. She underwent two surgeries and was declared cancer-free in 2017. The experience also dramatically changed her perspective on her health and her future family. Andrews has since become an advocate for early cancer detection, while also reaching a significant milestone in her own follow-up care: She now sees her oncologist annually rather than every six months. And having Mack has only made taking care of herself more important. “Everything takes on a different meaning when you have this little, 3-year-old bundle of joy,” she said. “You’ve got to take care of yourself. For the past week, fans have been leaving items in tribute at Dolly Parton’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star to express their love and their grief. All over the world, people have been mourning the icon — for her music, her acting, her philanthropy, and for being a fundamentally good person. Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez reported that the star, at 6710-1712 Hollywood Boulevard, appears to have been vandalized, NBC Los Angeles reports. It appears that the star has been defaced with a series of scratches. Though flowers and other items were present out of love, it is unclear what could motivate someone to attack a symbol of Dolly’s indelible legacy. At this time, it is unclear if law enforcement is looking into the alleged vandalism. However, we hope that the star has a full restoration in short order — and never faces disfigurement again. One would hope that the marks, which appear to be scratches, are some sort of accident. Days of intense foot traffic can sometimes lead to damage to sites that people intended to honor and respect. That can apply to memorials, Hollywood stars, or even Stonehenge. Foot traffic is almost always destructive. In some places, like boats, specific types of shoes tend to leave permanent damage. It is preferable to believe that the marks are tragic accidents than the alternatives. Did someone try to take part of her star as a keepsake? That … seems unlikely, given the evidence. Did someone lash out at the star out of misplaced anger or jealousy? We do not know, unfortunately. Dolly Parton was one of the most gifted songwriters of the past century, and she had the Grammy Awards to prove it. A Country singer, she was internationally beloved by an audience far larger than most Country singers can boast. Why? Because she was a profoundly good person who accumulated a vast fortune and used that money towards positive ends, from funding vaccine research to helping thousands of children develop a love of reading. Jenna Dewan is a former pro dancer who starred in the dance film Step Up. And while Julia Stiles was never a professional dancer, per se, one of her most famous roles is Save the Last Dance — in which she did a whole lot of dancing. Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik The former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star is also joining the competition. Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov The Olympic gold medalist and three-time U.S. national champion figure skater certainly knows a thing or two about performing under pressure. Glenn made history at the 2026 Olympics, including becoming the first U.S. woman to land three triple Axels at a single Games. Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess The former Bachelorette heartthrob is back in the reality TV spotlight — this time without roses. Cameron will compete with returning pro Sharna Burgess. Also joining the cast are Summer House star Ciara Miller, Savannah Bananas player Jackson Olson, comedian Connor Wood, Love Thy Nader star Sarah Jane Nader, Secret Lives of Mormon Wives personality Conner Leavitt (whose wife, Whitney Leavitt, competed last season), Paralympic champion Ezra Frech, Traitors runner-up Maura Higgins and Jimmy Kimmel sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez. Wearing dark clothes allowed both her fair skin and gleaming red hair to pop vibrantly. Addition, the close-up shots of her body as she dressed were a treat for the eyes. This appears to be a legally distinct nod to her MCU role When Sadie Sink is … let’s call it “dressed” … the electronics in the kitchen seem to go haywire. The sink (get it, sink?) also loses it as if possessed, splashing her with water. Sink is, at this point, still wearing thin white undergarments that do not necessarily shelter her body from the water. The ad is still safe to share on even the most prudish social media sites, like Instagram, but the vibes are deeply horny. She looks great. Seriously. Without spoiling her character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and in the upcoming X-Men films in the MCU, you could argue that this is a nod to her portrayal of a classic Marvel Comics character. But you could just as easily say that her kitchen is losing its mind because she’s just so hot. This is an effective ad campaign, and without the unfortunate memes that Tate McRae’s dance is eliciting. Even people who aren’t going to rush out to buy their own Calvins are going to have a new reason to look forward to May 2028, the projected release date for the MCU’s first big (new) X-Men project. Reading Time: 2 minutes When Tiger Woods was arrested on DUI charges back in March, it looked like the golf legend — who was not a first-time offender — might wind up behind bars. But in a Florida courtroom Wednesday morning, Woods accepted a plea deal and once again avoided jail time. As part of the deal, Woods pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of reckless driving and also resolved a charge related to refusing to submit to a lawful test. He was additionally found guilty of careless driving. (Photo by Nicholas Hunt/Getty Images) The biggest consequence is that Tiger will be without a driver’s license for the next five years. He also agreed to pay fines totaling $1,500, according to ESPN. Woods arrived at the Martin County Courthouse with his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, and his attorney, Doug Duncan. The 15-time major champion kept a low profile during the hearing, saying little as the case was resolved. The legal saga began on March 27, when Woods was arrested following a rollover crash near his Florida home. His SUV clipped a trailer being hauled by a truck before rolling onto its side. Woods was not seriously injured, and no one else was reported hurt. According to the arrest affidavit, Woods told authorities that he had been looking down at his cellphone and changing the radio station when he failed to notice a truck slowing down. Deputies who responded to the scene reportedly observed signs they considered concerning, including Woods allegedly sweating heavily and moving in a “lethargic and slow” manner. Woods initially pleaded not guilty to DUI and refusal to submit to a lawful test. That strategy has now changed considerably. Under Wednesday’s agreement, the DUI charge was reduced to reckless driving, while the testing-related charge was resolved separately. The five-year license suspensions attached to the charges will run concurrently, meaning Woods isn’t facing a decade-long driving ban. Still, five years is hardly a minor inconvenience. The judge also made clear that Woods can’t simply decide the rules don’t apply to him. He made it clear that driving while his license is suspended will result in additional legal consequences, including jail time. For one of the most famous athletes on the planet, the situation represents another difficult chapter in a life and career that have been marked by spectacular highs and very public lows. And now, apparently, Tiger Woods has one more thing to work on: finding a chauffeur. Reading Time: 2 minutes The reactions to the Tate McRae Calvin Klein ads aren’t overwhelmingly positive. Yes, the singer looks incredible — and hot. The dance looks a little awkward, however. Like most worthwhile clothing ads, the campaign seems to be more about hiring a really hot person than anything that the clothing is doing. (That is not a criticism! Obsessing over clothing models is an adolescent rite of passage for a reason.) In the ad, you can see McRae very clearly wears jeans. They’re not even low-riders, but hey also don’t need to be. She dances around to “Groove Is in the Heart” by Deee-Lite. As you can see, McRae’s dancing looks a little awkward. In her defense, that is likely because she reportedly only had about 20 minutes to learn the dance for the ad. (Learning choreography is challenging! We learn best by practicing, especially if we get to sleep between practices in order to better internalize our experiences.) Critics have said that it shows. Another flavor of critics have asked why other dances that they’ve seen appear to be nearly as awkward. That’s not to say that the ad has been universally panned. (It seems that Calvin Klein is not bearing the brunt of the blowback.) Some have compared her to Gary the Snail, a fan-favorite character from Spongebob Squarepants. Others have likened her to sea creatures or to cryptids like the Loch Ness Monster. Simply put, some found the perhaps-flattering contortions of her body to be so unnatural that it felt cringe. It reminds us a little, at times, of over-the-top comic book poses that women, including superheroes, sometimes strike in order to best display their curves to the reader. At the same time … sometimes memes look a lot like bullying because they seem mean-spirited and excessive. McRae looks great, as always. She was a sensible pick for the ad. Hopefully, next time, she’ll have more time to learn choreography so that it can look a little more natural. Reading Time: 2 minutes Back in 2007, police in Italy arrested American student Amanda Knox following the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher. After being wrongly convicted and imprisoned for four years, Knox was eventually exonerated. Now, she’s revisiting the events of that year in a comedy show called Cartwheel — so named because of the claim that she did a cartwheel after being arrested. And the Kercher family is failing to see the humor in the situation. (Photo by Santiago Felipe/WireImage) “What I would say [to Knox] is to think about the family here, think about her friends and to turn the tables if it was your sister that this had happened to,” Meredith’s older sister, Stephanie Kercher, told the BBC this week. That’s a pretty difficult request to ignore — particularly considering the tragedy at the center of the story. Meredith was just 21 when she was found stabbed to death in the apartment she shared with Knox while the two were studying abroad in Italy. Knox, however, insists the show isn’t making Meredith’s murder the punchline. The former murder suspect says Cartwheel is instead about the experience of being publicly vilified and the challenges of explaining her past to her children. “I joke a lot about how I was vilified, but I don’t joke about her murder,” Knox told the Telegraph (via Radar Online). Reading Time: 2 minutes After more than 17 hours of deliberation, the jury in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial told the judge on Tuesday that they are officially deadlocked. On social media, the situation has sparked widespread discourse, with the central question being: What comes next? The answer, like every other aspect of this trial, is quite complicated. The controversy began when the 12-person jury told Plymouth Superior Court Judge William Sullivan that they were unable to reach a unanimous verdict in the closely watched murder trial. Rather than sending the jurors home, however, Sullivan instructed them to head back into the deliberation room and keep working. “I know that this was a long trial,” the judge told the panel (via People), pointing to the more than 80 witnesses and 300-plus exhibits presented during the proceedings. Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse, has admitted to killing her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan — at the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023. The question before the jury has never really been whether Clancy was responsible for the physical acts. Instead, jurors must determine whether she was legally responsible for them. Clancy has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. Her defense has argued that she was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings and had become detached from reality. The panel — made up of nine women and three men — has already requested to review several pieces of evidence, including prescription medication bottles and the bloody knife Clancy used during her subsequent suicide attempt. Alcohol, however, was a different story. “I’ve never had a real problem with drugs, except for weed, but alcohol is something that I definitely have had a problem with,” she explained. Doja said drinking could fuel negative thoughts that she would then turn to the internet to validate. “The best example for my experience is using the internet as a means of validation to the negative thoughts in my head, which were then brought on by drinking alcohol,” she said. “I was never an alcoholic, but I definitely had problems,” she continued, warning that combining alcohol, social media, and unresolved mental health struggles can be particularly destructive. Doja also addressed another deeply personal subject: accusations that she hates herself or has rejected her Black identity. The singer and rapper, who is biracial, said she believes those feelings date back to childhood, when she moved to a predominantly white neighborhood at around age 8. “I think I hated myself since I was — could have been like 8 years old,” she said. Doja previously revealed in March that she had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and said she had spent years in therapy working through what she described as an “agonizing condition.” Now, she appears determined to be more open about the experiences that shaped her. In another TikTok, Doja pushed back against accusations that she is racist, a white supremacist, or a Nazi, insisting that she does not hate herself. How, he is apparently in the intensive care unit (ICU). What was wrong? According to TMZ‘s sources, the legendary singer is in the ICU out of an abundance of caution. Doctors are looking into what may be as minor as dehydration. His hope, the report says, is for the hospital to discharge him on Tuesday, September 1. We certainly share that hope. And so do his fans. If it is dehydration, he still did the right thing by seeking medical attention. If you can afford healthcare, it’s better safe than sorry. There was another incident in June TMZ‘s report also includes information gleaned from attendees at the St. Louis concert. Lionel Richie was reportedly “struggling a bit” as the show neared its conclusion. At one point, he even reportedly asked his team to bring a chair out onto the stage. The chair allowed him to sit (obviously) as he performed “All Night Long,” his final song of the night. Performing is exhausting and some songs just fit the vibe better if the singer is seated. However, in light of his hospitalization a short time later, perhaps he was already experiencing symptoms. If you’re unsure why Richie is being so cautious with his health, well, there’ some precedent. In June, the music icon ended up rushing to the hospital via ambulance in St. Paul. He was performing at a concert there, too, when he told the audience that he felt “dizzy” and “strange.” That time, the show ended abruptly, and paramedics met him backstage. We hope that all is well. We hope that it is dehydration and not some dire illness — or a strange allergy to cities with “Saint” in the name. Since then, her family’s life has changed its trajectory — and her priorities have, understandably, shifted. “I’m such a proud mama,” Clarkson described during the finale. And as the millions await the outcome with bated breath, Clancy continues to receive words of encouragement from her sizable army of supporters. As the wait for a verdict continued, Clancy’s attorney revealed Monday that the Massachusetts mother has received a deluge of mail from people who believe her story is far more complicated than the horrific deaths of her three children might suggest. And Reddington says Clancy reads every single one. “She knows there are people out there that have not judged her,” Reddington told reporters (via NBC News), explaining that the letters have provided his client with emotional support while she waits to learn her fate. That support is hardly a new development. Back in 2023, shortly after Clancy was accused of killing her three children, dozens of friends, coworkers and even complete strangers sent letters to her defense attorney. The correspondence painted a dramatically different picture of Clancy than the one presented by prosecutors. Former colleagues described her as a loving mother and dedicated labor and delivery nurse. One coworker wrote, “I do not know a better mother than Lindsay Clancy,” adding that she “lived and breathed for her children.” Another described Clancy as “kind, compassionate, patient, empathetic” and devoted to her family. And then there were the mothers who didn’t even know Clancy personally. Nearly 100 women signed a letter expressing sympathy for what they believed was her struggle with postpartum mental illness. Many said they could relate to the despair and psychological difficulties that can follow childbirth. “We want to stand by her in her darkest hour,” the mothers wrote. Other letters came from people around the country and even internationally, with some sharing their own experiences with postpartum mental illness and expressing concern about the treatment Clancy received before the killings. Those letters have become particularly significant to the defense as Reddington argues that Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she killed 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan. Now, more than three years after the children’s deaths, the support continues to arrive. Clancy remains nervous and “scared” as the jury deliberates, according to her attorney. But she apparently has plenty of reminders that there are people who believe the woman on trial cannot be reduced to the worst act of her life. Rob Shuter reported on his Naughty But Nice Substack page about what an alleged inside source shared. “Blake was absolutely hoping Taylor would reach out,” the insider claimed. “A text. Flowers. Even two words: ‘Happy birthday,'” the source listed as examples of a birthday message. It would not have had to be public! A text, a DM can say much more than a performative public decree. “Nothing came,” the insider alleged. The source explained: “That silence said everything.” According to the insider, “Blake kept telling herself there was a path back” even after Taylor began icing her out during her legal war with Justin Baldoni. “She thought time would cool everything down,” the source reasoned. “And,” the insider continued, “Taylor would eventually remember how much they loved each other.” ‘Taylor has moved on’ “The birthday changed that,” the inside source shared sadly. It will be interesting to see what he does next with his career, unfortunately. (Image Credit: YouTube) Jenny Slatten’s ALS symptoms are worsening Taking to social media, Sumit Singh and Jenny Slatten shared an update about how ALS is impacting Jenny, their marriage, and their lives. “I can’t talk,” Jenny revealed in the first of several videos. “Unfortunately, the ALS is progressing, and now it’s showing more in her [speech]. Like, it’s hard for her to talk now,” Sumit explained. He added: “Again, [it’s hard for her to] walk and mentally, it’s bad as well.” As Jenny spine and neck weaken, she has struggled with balance and movement. These symptoms began long before her diagnosis in December 2025. “Jenny is getting weaker, so it’s about time that we will start using the equipment,” Sumit shared. This was apparently a reference to mobility aids, whether in the form of a walker, wheelchair, or something else. “Maybe soon you will see that Jenny will be on some kind of support system [that] we can buy here and use it,” he suggested. However, that is not their long-term plan. Sumit and Jenny shared that they believe that she might be able to get better medical assistance in the US, where — among other things — her health insurance can help pay for medical care. Last month, Sumit filed for an emergency visa to be able to visit the US “So yeah, it’s progressing, but we were thinking that we could come to America to get proper treatment,” Sumit Singh explained with wife Jenny Slatten by his side. “I still try to have high hopes,” he expressed. Sumit affirmed: “I try to hope that America might have something better for Jenny and [that] she could get, at least, a better support system.” There is no cure for ALS at this time. However, there are treatments to ease symptoms. Additionally, Jenny’s daughter, Christina, lives in Palm Springs. It seems likely that Jenny would prefer to be around family. Reading Time: 2 minutes Nearly 30 years after Tupac Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas, the rapper’s family has finally received some long-awaited justice. On Monday, a Nevada jury found Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty of first-degree murder in connection with Shakur’s 1996 killing. Davis, 63, was the only person ever criminally charged in the death of the hip-hop icon, whose murder had long been one of the most infamous unsolved cases in US history. Prosecutors argued that Davis orchestrated the deadly shooting as retaliation after Shakur and members of his entourage were involved in a physical altercation with Davis’ nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, at the MGM Grand earlier that night. Shakur was riding in a BMW with Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight when a white Cadillac pulled alongside them at a Las Vegas intersection on September 7, 1996. Shakur was struck by multiple bullets and died from his injuries six days later at the age of 25. Knight was also injured but survived. Anderson was long suspected of being the shooter, but he was killed in 1998 and was never charged in Shakur’s death. That left Davis as the lone surviving member of the group prosecutors say was involved in the attack. And, unfortunately for Davis, he had spent years talking about it. Prosecutors placed significant emphasis on Davis’ own statements, including comments he made during police interviews and accounts published in his 2019 memoir. According to prosecutors, Davis admitted that he was in the Cadillac and provided the gun used in the shooting. “Let’s be clear, Duane Davis did not pull the trigger,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal told jurors. “But he did plan the shooting in retaliation of the beating of his nephew.” Davis’ defense team attempted to poke holes in those statements, arguing that he had exaggerated or fabricated his involvement over the years. They also maintained there was no independent evidence placing Davis in Las Vegas or inside the Cadillac on the night of Shakur’s murder. But the jury ultimately wasn’t buying it. Davis now faces the possibility of life in prison. For Tupac’s fans, the verdict closes a chapter that has remained open for nearly three decades. The rapper’s death sparked endless speculation, conspiracy theories, and competing accounts of what happened that night. And it seems that that’s true even in the world’s most powerful families. Hunter Biden opened up this week about one of the strangest chapters of his battle with addiction — and it involves his father showing up at his drug-filled Washington, D.C., home. Needless to say, these weren’t exactly low-key father-son pop-ins. Hunter said he would notice several SUVs arriving outside his home before realizing that his father had come to check on him. The Secret Service presence was difficult to miss, even with a reduced motorcade. “My dad showed up. He literally showed up at the house twice,” Hunter recalled. According to Hunter, Joe would then walk up to the door and knock. Hunter said his father was trying to figure out what was going on with his son and what, exactly, he planned to do next. “Please, like, what are we gonna do tomorrow? What’s the plan?” Hunter recalled his father asking. Hunter apparently had an answer — or at least something that sounded like one at the time. He said he would assure Joe that he had a plan. The problem, of course, was that Hunter’s addiction wasn’t exactly interested in sticking to the plan. The former first son has been remarkably candid in recent years about his struggles with drugs and alcohol, including periods when his life became increasingly chaotic. He has since embraced sobriety and spoken openly about the people who helped him survive what he has described as some of the darkest periods of his life. His latest story, however, offers a particularly unusual glimpse into what Joe Biden was dealing with behind closed doors while simultaneously serving as Barack Obama’s vice president. Hunter wasn’t describing a polished political family photo-op. He was describing his father showing up at his home, knocking on the door, and attempting to figure out how to help his struggling son. And while Hunter may have had plenty of complicated feelings about his father over the years, these particular memories appear to underscore one thing: Joe Biden kept showing up. The clearly AI slop image depicted the destruction of oil storage tanks, docks, refineries, and more. The video is from the point of view of inside of a helicopter, which surveys the catastrophic bombing of an island. Though technological literacy and other context clues make it clear that the video is fake, that might not be apparent to some who might view the video and believe it to be real. “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens,” Trump captioned the video, signing it: “President DJT.” Trump posts AI slop with the caption, “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!!” [image or embed] — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) August 30, 2026 at 10:23 PM To start with, we should emphasize that not only is the video a fabrication, but it does not depict an actual event. Kharg Island, a major oil refinery site for Iran, has not been destroyed. Reports do say that Larak Island — another Iranian island — was bombed today. But that is, in fact, a different island. Is Trump threatening Kharg Island and, more broadly, Iran with his post? Did he confuse one island for another? The name of the island the US bombed today is Larak. It is hundreds of kilometers from Kharg. This is at least the second time Trump claimed the US destroyed Kharg Island. He’s also threatened to take it many times. US forces have not targeted Kharg Island since the first phase of the war in March. Then, a more creeping fear sinks in: Does Trump know that the video is fake? Probably. He probably knows that the video is not real. Though he has in the past expressed confusion over AI slop and even simple photo editing that is not meant to deceive, Trump hopefully knows that the video isn’t real. Even early during the Iran War, Trump would refer to supercuts of destruction of military targets in an excited tone, like a young child describing what he’d just seen, as if unaware that these clips were edited to appease him. It is probably not good, on any level, that we have doubts as to whether Trump knows which island the US military just bombed or whether he is lucid enough to know when a video is AI slop or authentic. (Today, he also posted a demand for Americans to love AI data centers. Presumably, this was at the urging of tech influencers who are desperately fighting a sea of hard-earned ill will while hoping to delay the popping of the AI bubble for a few more months.) We live in a dismal timeline. Not the darkest, however. We could have all of this and also Spencer Pratt as LA mayor. Thankfully, that is not the case. Things could always get worse — but they could also get significantly better. We don’t have to live this way.
