As you may have unfortunately heard of late, it’s possible that the Duggars soon make a return to reality television. We cannot confirm at this time whether or not that will be the case. We can, however, report that another series about the Duggars is on the way — from the same folks who so gloriously exposed this family and its unusual religion last summer. Shiny Happy People shed a lot of light on the effed up Duggar family. (Amazon) Back in the middle of 2023, Amazon Prime released Shiny Happy People, a documentary that centered on the Institute of Basic Life Principles (IBLP), a religious cult (some might say) founded by Bill Gothard. This is the same cult (some might say) whose rules and strict regulations were imposed on all 19 Duggar children by their parents, Jim Bob and Michelle. “The IBLP teachings aren’t Christianity,” a woman says at one point in the program. “They’re something entirely different.” The series also featured interviews with Jill (Duggar) Dillard, Derick Dillard and Amy (Duggar) King’s involvement… all of whom shed more light than ever before on the belief system held by Jill’s polarizing parents. Jill, for her parent, said she was made to feel that saying no to her father was akin to saying no to God — and also said she was forced to give birth on camera. It can foster this cult-like environment,” Jill said on camera. “I absolutely think people would be drawn to that.” Now, in the wake of the popularity of Season 1, it has come out that Amazon is moving ahead with Shiny Happy People Season 2. According to a video posted by @itsrowsdower on Instagram, new installments of the program are currently filming in Georgia. Just to be clear, though, Amazon has not yet made any sort of announcement. Shortly after the release of Shiny Happy People last year, Cori Shepherd Sterns — one of the docuseries’ executive producers — assured fans in a Reddit AMA that there was plenty of material to do another season… if given the opportunity arose down the line. “Go to Amazon Prime Video on all socials and beggggg! We have SO much more to tell!” Cori told fans, adding that she would likely include more coverage of the Duggars’ IBLP pals, the Bates Family, in a new season. In an interview with The Sun, meanwhile, Cori also claimed there was a lot of unused footage from Season 1 that she would like to see on Season 2. “There is more incredible stuff to come,” she said back then. “It was hard to decide what to leave behind. There was a lot of discussion about like, ‘Oh, we can’t cut that. That’s because Joe Exotic, star of the Netflix documentary Tiger King, dropped in to ask for a favor. A favor from Kendall as well as her sister, Kim Kardashian. “Have your sister reach out please,” Joe wrote in Kendall’s comments. “I want to show her the videos of them all admitting to perjury. She helps those wrongfully incarcerated right?” What’s he talking about, you might ask? Well, he explains futher: “If you go to JoeExoticTV.net there’s 600 unseen video files uploaded they gave my attorneys of them secretly recording each other talking about how they set me up and admitting they lied. Courts have it all. The process is slow, @kimkardashian I’m innocent and in prison, help me out. When Kourtney Kardashian shared a picture of her and new son Rocky on Sunday, January 28, the Tiger King star was right there in the comment section. “Awwww cute, also please have your sister help me get out of this hell hole,” Joe wrote. But hitting up family members has been only one of Joe’s ploys to get Kim’s attention. After just about one year in prison, Joe wrote an open letter to Kim that appeared in Entertainment Weekly. “I am writing you this letter not as Joe Exotic but as the person Joseph Maldonado-Passage, asking you to please help me by just taking 10 minutes out of your life and placing a call to President Trump.” As you may recall, Kim worked with Trump to secure presidential pardons for several non-violent drug offenders during his term. It is reported that she plans to take the “big” bar exam in early 2025, but it’s also reported that Kim may be putting her legal aspirations on hold for now. “Last year she slowly realized how tedious it was and how never-ending the study was,” an insider told The Sun in a report. “She can’t drop it without looking bad, looking like she couldn’t pass it after all the work and all of her talk about how passionate she was about pushing for prison reform.” So why step away? Abi took to the stage several times during Sunday’s episode, truly cementing her victory with her final performance in which she sang her original tune, as well as a rendition of Bon Jovi’s “Bed of Roses.” Moseley finished second and Blocker came in third. Late last week, CNN obtained surveillance footage from 2016 that depicted Diddy brutally assaulting Cassie Ventura back when the two were dating. The incident mirror what Cassie described Diddy had done to her in a lawsuit she filed against her ex last November; which was quickly settled by the controversial mogul via an undisclosed amount of money. Early on Sunday, meanwhile, Diddy turned a camera on himself and addressed the ugly beating in a video of his own. He posted it on Instagram. “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life,” Combs says in the footage. “Sometimes you gotta do that. I was f-cked up. I mean I hit rock bottom but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable.” He continues as follows: “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.” This may sound to some like a big step, but as we mentioned above… what else could Diddy say? The Duggar family is dropping grim hints of a possible TV return. First, there was Jana’s abrupt return to social media. Then, Jessa heaped undeserved praise on Michelle Duggar, of all people. To some longtime Duggar-watchers, this could just be normal social media comebacks. It happens. But others see these as part of a series of red flags that could herald the family’s return to television. That seems like appropriate timing. It’s hard to think of someone who is more wholly deserving yet undeserving of Mother’s Day honors. By quantity? She’s such a mother. By quality? That’s another story. But it’s more than Mother’s day. Not only did Jana return after a two-year hiatus, but Jessa reemerged after months of silence to spam posts on multiple platforms, vlogging about her kids. Obviously, it’s possible that a resurgence in two Duggar daughters’ social media accounts could be a coincidence. But, in general, there are two main reasons for reality TV personalities to strategically post. The first is because they want to do product endorsements and similar ads, for money. And the other is because they have a project — like a TV comeback — coming up. Michelle Duggar made a very rare public appearance today. In 2015, the world learned about Josh Duggar’s scandals. This went beyond his “pornography scandal,” which was a controversy within their cult, and him cheating on his wife, which was a cruel thing to do. When Josh was a teenager, he molested five young girls — including several of his own sisters. His parents covered it up, putting him into their cult’s idea of counseling without reporting the crime or actually addressing the problem. It soon became apparent that TLC was boiling the frog with viewers. Little by little, Jill & Jessa’s disgraceful parents began inching their way back onto the show. Fans feared that i was only a matter of time before Josh reappeared. Fortunately, that did not materialize. In 2021, Homeland Security officials arrested Josh Duggar for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Later that year, he received his conviction. After such a grisly scandal — especially one where so many victims and accessories (at least, people who covered up Josh’s crimes) were Josh’s castmates — how could the family return to TV? We would love to believe that it’s impossible. But networks seldom cancel shows over personal moral horror. These are business decisions. Fleeing viewers, protesting viewers, and especially pressure from advertisers changes more TV exec minds than any amount of right and wrong. So what would it take to make a Duggar TV comeback happen? Unfortunately, it’s just for people to “forget” and “move on.” There are elements of our culture that are almost pathologically obsessed with “letting go” of wrongdoings. It could happen. If people shrug off wrongdoings, they’ll watch the Duggar cult on TV again and brush off moral outrage over it. Worse — many of them will pretend that it’s fine to watch Jim Bob and Michelle and their brood, because Josh is behind bars. Josh’s scandals led to the Duggar family reality TV careers tanking not once, but twice. But Josh didn’t cover up his crimes as a teen. His parents did. And the abusive ideology of IBLP and the Duggar family made a perfect hunting ground for predators like Josh. He benefited from that, but it didn’t start with him. Josh was just the tip of the iceberg. On the “Shiny Happy People” documentary, Jill Duggar tried to convey the complex emotions that she still feels towards her horrible parents. Jill and Derick have raised the alarm about Jim Bob pocketing checks from TLC and then doling out limited payouts to his adult children. For years, he has used money and gifts — like houses — to control his adult children, even after they marry. To tune in to watch the Duggars stage a comeback means helping Jim Bob to do that again. There was a time when TLC’s cameras caught Josh Duggar pretending to be an upstanding man and a good husband to Anna Duggar. Those were lies. It is with a heavy heart that we note that other reality stars have returned to television after awful scandals and grim revelations. Obviously, the first people to come to mind are some of the more vile Real Housewives of 90 Day Fiance cast members. It’s not like they had their own shows, and producers clearly felt that including toxic scumbags would do more good than harm to ratings. But one reality TV figure seems especially relevant. Her family had their own show on TLC. And after her scandal, involving a sexual predator who targets children, led to the show’s cancelation. As we noted, executives only rarely make moral, ideological decisions on purpose. Pressure from viewers, especially on advertisers, is what tips the scales more times than not. Could the Duggars stage a return, on some fringe streaming network or on WEtv or something like that? Absolutely. But we would love to believe that there are enough decent people in the world that it wouldn’t work out. Diddy has denied repeatedly that he was ever abusive to his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. CNN has just released video footage that suggests otherwise. Last November, when Cassie claimed that Diddy raped and abused her, among her allegations was an incident at InterContinental Century City. At the time, she claimed he had brutally beat her during an argument. Six months after the lawsuit had been filed – and ultimately settled – surveillance footage has been released of the event in question. Warning: This is incredibly difficult to watch. According to Cassie’s complaint, Sean ‘Diddy’ Coombs paid the InterContinental Century City $50,000 for the hallway security footage to ensure it would never see the light of day. And yet, here we are, as CNN has obtained the footage of the events that match the allegations made by Cassie in her lawsuit. In the video, Diddy shoves, kicks, grabs, and violently throws a myriad of objects at his ex while the pair were staying at the now closed hotel in Los Angeles. Diddy, wearing only a towel around his waist, runs after her. When he catches up to her, he can be seen grabbing her by the back of the neck and throws her to the floor. He then begins to kick her. But that is not the end of the video. Diddy Drags Cassie Along The Floor, Before Throwing Something At Her As Cassie lies motionless on the floor, Diddy continues to kick his ex twice more. Grabbing her purse and suitcase, he then makes as if to bring her back to their room, briefly dragging her body by grabbing her sweatshirt. At this point, it seems as if Diddy has given up, as he leaves her to return to his room. Cassie finally starts to get herself back to feet and use her phone. That’s when the rapper returns, still only wearing a towel. The video is taken from several angles from the hotel, with one camera picking up reflections in a nearby mirror. This footage appears to show Diddy shoving Cassie. Moments later, he sits down on a nearby chair, grabs an object off a table and throws it at her. He walks away again, when an elevator opens and someone exits into the hall. (Photo by Hector Vivas/Getty Images) Cassie’s Lawsuit & Response To The Video “The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs,” Douglas H. Wigdor, a lawyer for Cassie, said in response to the video. “Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light,” Wigdor added. Cassie and Diddy dated on-and-off from 2007 and 2018. She eventually sued the Bad Boy Records founder in November 2023, alleging that he subjected her to years of physical violence and sexual abuse. In her complaint, when talking about this incident, claimed Diddy was “extremely intoxicated and punched Ms. Ventura in the face, giving her a black eye.” Despite all of her claims, the suit was resolved the day after filing with an undisclosed settlement. However, it started a firestorm of allegations against Sean Coombs that has continued through 2024. The reality star — who has officially booked her return to the Teen Mom franchise — was granted a six-month restraining order on Thursday against her estranged husband, David Eason. The legal document makes it illegal over that time period for Eason to contact Evans … to be on her property in North Carolina… and from talking about Jenelle at all on social media. The couple is parents to a young daughter named Ensley, while David has a teenage daughter from a previous relationship and Jenelle has a son named Kaiser with ex-Nathan Griffith and a son named Jace with ex Andrew Lewis. (MTV) As for why a judge affirmed an order of protection at this hearing on Thursday, the aforementioned insider told The Ashley: “The reason it was granted basically was that the amount of times David texted or talked about Jenelle could count as harassment. “The judge granted it on the fact that Jenelle’s lawyer specifically claimed it was harassment, because David constantly talks about her, whether it’s in texts or social media or whatever. “The restraining order was basically because they proved David was ‘harassing’ Jenelle.” Indeed, Eason recently said Evans was a thief and a cheater. Earlier this month, the Counting On alum honored Michelle Duggar by writing the following on Facebook: Feeling blessed beyond measure this Mother’s Day! (TLC) It didn’t take long after Jessa shared these words for a handful of users to stop, read them and wonder: WTF?!? “Didn’t your mom harbor a child molester?” one person wrote, for example. “Not exactly a shining example.” This is a pointed reference to Josh Duggar, who molested his sisters when he was a teenager (and whose parents helped to cover up the crime) and who is now behind federal bars after being convicted of child pornography possession. Another individual, meanwhile, labeled Michelle Duggar as a “baby machine, not a mother,” citing the many kids to whom she gave birth (19!!!!) and the clear belief held by Jim Bob Duggar that women are meant to procreate and… that’s about it.
