Riot Games is taking another step toward protecting competitive integrity in VALORANT Patch 13.05, with new penalties targeting players caught using stream sniping and instalock tools.

According to Riot’s official patch notes, the developer has started rolling out punishments for accounts detected using these tools. Initial offenses can result in temporary game bans, while repeated violations can eventually lead to permanent bans.

Riot Cracks Down on Stream Sniping in VALORANT

Stream sniping has been an ongoing competitive integrity problem, particularly when players use livestreams to gain information about opponents during matches.

Riot defines stream sniping as using another player’s live broadcast or content to target, disrupt, manipulate, or gain unfair information during a match. The company previously confirmed in July that it had improved its detection systems to better identify this behavior.

Patch 13.05 now takes that enforcement further, with Riot confirming that temporary game bans can escalate into permanent bans for repeat offenders.

VALORANT Instalock Tools Can Also Get Players Banned

The other major target is instalock tools. These third-party tools can automate or provide an unfair advantage during Agent selection, allowing users to secure an Agent faster than players selecting normally.

Importantly, Riot’s wording specifically refers to the use of instalock tools. The patch notes do not suggest that manually selecting an Agent quickly will result in punishment.

Riot has not publicly explained exactly how its detection system identifies these tools, likely to avoid giving developers an easier path around enforcement.

Riot Continues Its Push for Competitive Integrity

The new penalties follow Riot’s broader efforts against boosting, win-trading, smurfing-related abuse, and stream sniping. The developer previously said confirmed competitive integrity violations could result in account suspensions, rank reversions, reward reversions, and permanent bans for repeated severe abuse.

With Patch 13.05, Riot is making the consequences particularly clear for players relying on stream sniping or automated instalock tools, and repeated usage could eventually cost them their VALORANT account permanently.
