Administrators COSMIN Posted August 17 Administrators Posted August 17 Apex Legends controller players have officially been dealing with weaker aim assist behavior following a major anti-cheat update, with Respawn confirming that controller accuracy has dropped by roughly 2–4% since the changes were introduced. Respawn says the difference is a side effect of measures designed to stop players from manipulating aim assist through RC Filters and other exploits. While the studio describes the impact as minor, professional players such as ImperialHal argue that a 2–4% accuracy difference is much more significant than it sounds. On July 10th, as part of a substantial Anti-Cheat effort, we pushed changes that restricted unintended manipulation of RC Filters and other aim assist exploits. This change resulted in minor behavioral differences to aim assist, particularly at long range. According to Respawn’s internal data, average controller accuracy has decreased by approximately 2–4% since the update. Importantly, this does not necessarily mean Respawn directly reduced aim assist strength by 2–4%. Instead, the anti-cheat changes altered the systems surrounding aim assist, resulting in a measurable 2–4% reduction in controller accuracy. Respawn says some of that decline comes from preventing players who were previously exploiting aim assist from gaining an unfair advantage. Long-Range Aim Assist Has Also Been Affected The difference appears to be particularly noticeable at longer ranges. Respawn acknowledged that the anti-cheat changes created minor behavioral differences to aim assist, especially during long-range engagements. Respawn now says the measures are necessary for the long-term health and competitive integrity of Apex Legends. ImperialHal Questions the Aim Assist Nerf The change has already drawn criticism from one of Apex Legends’ biggest professional players. ImperialHal questioned whether weakening an entire input method was the correct solution for combating cheating, arguing that the 2–4% accuracy difference is “substantial.” His concern highlights the main controversy surrounding the update. While eliminating RC Filter exploits should create fairer matches, legitimate controller players are also experiencing changes to their aim. Respawn says it will continue monitoring the anti-cheat landscape, meaning controller aim assist could receive further adjustments depending on how the changes affect Apex Legends over the coming weeks.
