Apex Legends Ranked may be preparing for one of its biggest competitive changes yet. According to prominent leaker HYPERMYST, Respawn Entertainment is reportedly working on bringing a Legend Ban system to Ranked matches.

The feature has not been officially announced, and there is currently no confirmed release window. However, the leak suggests Respawn could be looking to bring Ranked closer to the strategic format already used across the Apex Legends competitive scene.

In brief:

  • A Legend Ban system is reportedly coming to Apex Legends Ranked
  • Respawn has not officially confirmed the feature
  • Legend bans are already used in ALGS competitions
  • The system could force Ranked players to build more flexible team compositions

The exact rules for the rumored Ranked system remain unknown. Players may be allowed to vote against certain Legends before a match, or Respawn could rotate banned characters based on pick rates and other gameplay data.

Another possibility is a modified version of the ALGS system. Legend bans are already part of professional Apex Legends competitions, and EA has expanded the format into Year 6 Challenger Circuit events and other official qualifiers.

A direct copy of the ALGS format may not work for standard matchmaking, since tournament teams play several matches in a connected series. Ranked lobbies are formed for individual games, meaning Respawn would likely need a faster and simpler approach.

Introducing bans could prevent the strongest Legends from dominating every high-level lobby. It would also encourage players to learn multiple characters instead of relying on a single main throughout an entire Ranked split.

The feature could be controversial, though. Players may become frustrated when their preferred Legend is unavailable, especially if they purchased cosmetics or spent significant time mastering that character.

According to EA’s current Ranked guide, players select Legends one at a time and duplicate picks are not allowed within the same squad. The guide does not currently mention any form of pre-match Legend banning.

As of writing, the Legend Ban system should be treated strictly as a leak. Respawn has promised continued Legend balance updates, matchmaking improvements, and broader competitive changes throughout 2026, but Ranked bans have not appeared on the official roadmap.

Still, if the report proves accurate, Apex Legends Ranked could soon become much more unpredictable and strategically demanding.
