Apex Legends Tempest Leak: Release Window, Sword Teaser, and Everything We Know

  • Administrators

A new Apex Legends leak may have revealed the codename and release window for the battle royale’s next playable character. According to prominent leaker HYPERMYST, the upcoming Legend is currently known internally as “Tempest” and is being prepared for Season 32, which is expected to run between February and April 2027.

In brief

  • Tempest is reportedly the codename for the next Apex Legends character
  • The Legend is expected to arrive during Season 32 in early 2027
  • Early walking, crouching, and sprinting animations are reportedly being tested
  • A teaser may show Tempest carrying a sword, but the character’s abilities remain unknown

The leak claims that Tempest is currently scheduled to join the roster in Season 32. While Respawn Entertainment has not officially revealed the character, recent game files reportedly contained temporary movement animations connected to the codename, including walking, crouching, and sprinting cycles.

Finding animations in the files suggests that development has moved beyond the earliest concept stage. However, temporary assets can change significantly before release, meaning Tempest’s final appearance, name, and launch timing are not guaranteed.

One of the most interesting details surrounding Tempest is a mysterious teaser that appears to show the character carrying a sword. It is currently unclear whether the weapon will be part of the Legend’s ability kit, a standard melee weapon, or simply a visual element connected to their backstory.

Respawn has previously built Legends around distinctive tools and combat identities, so a sword-based ability could introduce a very different playstyle. However, Tempest’s passive, tactical, ultimate, and class remain unknown.

The report also suggests that Respawn wants upcoming Legends to provide unique gameplay opportunities instead of relying entirely on additional movement mechanics. This would be notable after Season 29 introduced Axle, a Skirmisher designed around faster sliding and speed-boosting abilities. Respawn acknowledged that movement-focused characters have regularly remained among the game’s most popular picks.

Tempest may therefore be designed to fill a more specialized combat or team role. Until Respawn shares an official trailer or character reveal, all leaked information should be treated as subject to change.
