Apex Legends players are running into another live service headache, as Respawn has confirmed that some players are currently unable to connect to matches. The issue surfaced on May 22, 2026, with the official Apex Legends Live Comms account acknowledging the problem and saying the team is investigating.

Respawn’s latest update was short but important. According to the official notice, the team is aware that players are currently unable to connect to a match and is investigating the issue. The studio also thanked players for their patience while work continues behind the scenes.

Unlike a normal bug that affects a weapon, a Legend ability, or a cosmetic, connection issues can stop players from getting into the game entirely. This is really disruptive for anyone trying to grind Ranked, complete Battle Pass challenges, or simply play a few matches during Season 29.

Players Report Login and Server Problems

The official update lines up with wider player reports of Apex Legends connectivity problems on May 22. According to recent reports, players are facing login, server connection, and matchmaking issues, with some users regaining access after waiting.

Season 29 Overclocked Has Already Had Several Technical Fixes

This latest issue comes during Apex Legends Season 29, Overclocked, which launched with major gameplay changes including new Legend Axle, Deathbox Respawns, matchmaking adjustments, audio changes, and updates for Legends like Vantage and Conduit.

Respawn also pushed a previous update on May 13 that fixed several early-season issues, including Xbox voice comms being re-enabled, server crash and stability fixes, Deathbox Respawn XP not being granted properly, PS5 performance mode settings resetting, and multiple Axle related bugs.

So while Season 29 has brought some exciting changes to the game, it has also required a few live service cleanups in its opening weeks.

Matchmaking Problems Come at a Busy Time for Ranked

The timing is also notable because Respawn recently announced a new Ranked matchmaking test for high skill players. From June 9 to June 23, Ranked will become solo queue only for players Diamond and above, meaning Diamond, Master, and Predator players will not be able to queue as a premade squad during that test period. Respawn said the goal is to create more evenly matched high skill lobbies, reduce hard carries into higher ranks, and build more trust in match fairness.

Apex players are already watching Ranked closely because of the upcoming solo queue experiment, and any connection problems can add more frustration to an already sensitive part of the game.

Apex Legends Server Issues Are Being Investigated

The good news is that Respawn has publicly confirmed the issue, which usually means the team is already looking into the affected services. The bad news is that matchmaking problems are among the most annoying live service issues because they can block players from actually playing the game.

Players can still try the usual steps such as restarting the game, checking their internet connection, switching data centers, or relaunching their platform client. However, if the issue is on Respawn’s backend, those steps may not fully solve the problem until the developers push a fix.
