VALORANT Patch 12.05 Brings Big Clove Nerfs and Yoru Changes

VALORANT Patch 12.05 looks set to be one of those updates that immediately gets people talking. The headline changes are centered on Clove and Yoru, two agents who have both been major points of frustration in ranked and coordinated play. Based on the early patch details shared by VALORANT source AriVLRNT, Riot is targeting Clove’s post death utility and Yoru’s constant pressure tools in a way that could noticeably slow both agents down. Riot had also already signaled that Patch 12.05 would mark the start of the next Premier stage and the new Act 2 rotation.

At the time of writing, Riot’s full official 12.05 patch notes page does not appear to be live on the indexed patch notes hub yet, so the ability changes below are based on the posted patch change summaries now circulating on social media. Riot’s official site had previously confirmed that Patch 12.05 would include the next Premier stage, a Battlepass scroll wheel fix, and Act 2 rollout timing.

Clove changes in VALORANT Patch 12.05

The biggest Clove change appears to hit Ruse when used after death. According to the patch summary tied to AriVLRNT’s post, the smoke duration while dead is being reduced from 14 seconds to 6 seconds. Meddle is also reportedly getting its area of effect reduced from 6 meters to 4 meters. If that goes live as listed, it is a pretty meaningful nerf to what made Clove feel so annoying in the first place.

That dead cast smoke duration nerf is the real story here. Clove has been valuable because this agent can still influence rounds after going down, which often makes trading this agent feel less rewarding than it should. Cutting that smoke timer to 6 seconds would make those late-round post-death plays much less oppressive and would force Clove players to think more carefully about timing instead of getting huge value almost by default. The Meddle area reduction points in the same direction. Riot seems to be trimming away some of the easy space denial and chaos that Clove can create.

Yoru changes in VALORANT Patch 12.05

Yoru is also taking a hit in Patch 12.05, and these changes look like they are aimed squarely at his flexibility. The shared patch summary says Gatecrash’s active beacon duration is being reduced from 30 seconds to 15 seconds. On top of that, Blindside charges are reportedly being reduced from 2 to 1. Those are not tiny number tweaks. They directly impact how often Yoru can pressure, fake, reposition, and force defenders to respect multiple possibilities at once.

The Gatecrash timer cut is especially interesting because it weakens one of Yoru’s most threatening habits, setting up long-duration teleport pressure and making defenders second-guess themselves for extended stretches. Dropping that window to 15 seconds means Yoru players will have less room to stall and play mind games. The Blindside reduction from two flashes to one is even more direct. It strips away some of his self-sufficiency and should make solo Yoru entries riskier unless the team is properly supporting him.

If these changes hold, Patch 12.05 feels like a clear attempt to tone down agents who can create too much value through unpredictability and low commitment utility. Clove has been strong because they stay useful even after dying. Yoru has been strong because he can overload defenders with too many threats at once. Nerfing both at the same time suggests Riot wants rounds to feel a bit cleaner and easier to read.

This does not mean either agent is suddenly bad. Clove will still have a unique identity, and Yoru will still be dangerous in the hands of specialists. But both agents could feel less forgiving after 12.05. Clove players may need better discipline with smoke timing, while Yoru players may have to be more deliberate with every flash and teleport setup instead of overwhelming teams through constant utility pressure. That is an inference based on the reported stat changes rather than a direct Riot statement.

More changes coming with VALORANT Patch 12.05

Patch 12.05 is not only about agent tuning. Riot had already confirmed in Patch 12.04 that the next Premier stage would begin with 12.05, with matches starting on March 18, 2026, and playoffs qualification requiring a Premier Score of at least 500. Riot also noted that a Battlepass and event pass scroll wheel issue would be fixed in 12.05. In addition, the official VALORANT account has promoted the new Act 2 map rotation tied to Patch 12.05, with Abyss and Corrode rotating out while Fracture and Lotus return.

That means 12.05 is shaping up to be a pretty impactful patch even beyond the Clove and Yoru adjustments. Between agent nerfs, Premier timing, and a fresh map pool, this is the kind of update that can change the feel of ranked and organized play at the same time.

VALORANT Patch 12.05 looks like a targeted balance pass rather than a giant overhaul, but those are often the updates players feel the most. Clove losing so much power on dead cast smokes and Yoru losing both uptime and a flash charge could have a real effect on pick rates and round pacing. Even if the rest of the patch is relatively light, these are the kinds of changes that can reshape how frustrating certain agents feel to play against.

Once Riot publishes the full official patch notes page, there may be a few extra bug fixes or smaller adjustments attached to 12.05.
