Riot Games is reinventing how every role scales in 2026 with powerful new Role Quests that unlock unique upgrades for top, mid, bot, jungle, and support players.

The 2026 Season One update is bringing some of the biggest systemic changes League of Legends has seen in years, and the introduction of Role Quests sits at the center of it. Starting in January, each of the lanes, top, mid, and bot, will receive exclusive questlines that reward massive role-specific power spikes, similar to jungle pet evolutions or support item upgrades. What Are Role Quests?

Role Quests are new progression systems assigned based on the role you queue for in champion select. As you farm minions, take plates, secure towers, and participate in objective fights—especially in your assigned lane—you fill your quest bar. Once completed, you unlock a powerful, role-specific upgrade in a brand-new quest item slot.

Every role progresses through their quest at different paces, but overall timing is comparable to how quickly support items upgrade today.

Top Lane Role Quest—More Influence & a Free Teleport Upgrade

Top lane has long struggled with low game impact, even when ahead. Riot is directly addressing that by giving top laners the most powerful quest reward in the game.

Top lane quest rewards include:

• A free Teleport spell on a long cooldown
• If you already took Teleport, you instead gain a stronger version that provides a large max-health shield on arrival
• A burst of bonus experience on quest completion
• Increased experience from future sources
• A higher level cap

This is designed to restore agency to the top lane and make winning matchups feel more meaningful in the mid-to-late game.

Mid Lane Role Quest—Free Tier 3 Boots & Fast Recall

Mid lane is the most flexible role, home to assassins, mages, fighters, roamers, and hybrids. Riot has created a universal reward that fits all of them.

Mid lane quest rewards include:

• A free Tier 3 boot upgrade, similar to the ones unlocked via Feats on live
• A new empowered 4-second recall with its own cooldown
• Slight tweaks to certain boot types for better role alignment

These upgrades enhance roaming, control, tempo, and map influence—all core qualities of mid-lane identity.

Bot Lane Role Quest—More Gold & a Seventh Item Slot

Bot lane carries are meant to be the late-game DPS monsters of League, but their impact has fallen behind other roles. In 2026, Riot is heavily reinforcing the “hyper-carry” fantasy.

Bot lane quest rewards include:

• A large lump sum of gold on completion
• Increased gold from CS, kills, and assists
• A new seventh item slot exclusively for boots

This allows ADCs to scale harder, reach legendary items earlier, and eventually run full six-item builds plus boots in their own dedicated slot.

Jungle Role Quest—More Balanced Power & Safer Objective Secures

Jungle has been the most influential role in recent years. To bring its power back in line, its quest is being rebalanced rather than replaced.

Jungle quest rewards include:

• Existing pet evolution
• PvP Smite upgrade
• Increased gold and XP from large monsters on completion
• Bonus movement speed inside the jungle

Riot is also making it harder for non-junglers to steal objectives by increasing epic monster resistances and buffing Smite’s damage. This reduces frustration while preserving the jungle’s core identity.

Support Role Quest—Better Economy & More Utility

The role already has a functional quest system, so Riot is adding quality-of-life improvements rather than major power spikes.
