League of Legends: Role Swapping is Arriving in Champion Select

Riot is bringing Role Swap to Champion Select.

One of the most frustrating parts of playing ranked or any form of Draft mode is being Autofilled. Everyone who has played Ranked has faced this issue at least once in their life and many have accepted it as inevitable. Despite being frustrating, it actually helps lower queue times.

However, there is a way for players to circumvent it and it requires some persuasion skills. Players can ask their teammates in Champion Select if they are willing to role swap, if they agree you get your preferred role. It’s not a 100% way to get your desired role but it works.

Depending on how good you are at persuading your teammates, you can get your role most of the time. However, with the recent proposed changes you you don’t even have to persuade them, you can just press the role swap button until they relent.

Jokes aside, starting the next patch, players can ask for a role swap in Champion Select with a click of a button. If they agree, you instantly role-swap. This is great news for players who don’t speak the same language and are chat-restricted.

In addition to the changes, Junglers are now auto-assigned Smite and there can only be one Smite per team. So, double smite stats are no longer possible and players won’t be trolling with double smite either. Also, Supports are now automatically given support items when they get in the game. So, no more “accidental” Dorans items on supports.

As for when the changes will arrive, they are scheduled for Patch 25.08, which is arriving on April 16, 2025.
