Riot Says 95% of LoL Legendary Items are Getting Nerfed in 2024

Riot is overhauling most tank items and nerfing the majority of the Legendary items in League of Legends.

With Preseason 2025 fast approaching Riot has revealed some of the changes coming later in the year. Starting with champion changes, Swain and Aphelios are getting some much-needed changes. Bounties will be reworked and will be based on your gold. The Summoner Spell Teleport is getting some major changes. But the most interesting change we might see is the item change.

The power level of Legendary Items has been a hot topic for the last couple of months. Most of the League of Legends player base believes that items are quite overturned. It’s not only the player base that thinks that, Riot even agrees too.

Although Riot attempted to revamp items in 2020 and again at the beginning of Season 14, these efforts have not been successful. But it seems they are trying once again and this time they are tuning down the power level of most Legendary Items.

In a recent video titled “An Update on Some Projects” Riot Phreak has outlined some of the changes coming to League of Legends, including the changes to Legendary Items.

Legendary Item Changes

Here are all the Legendary Item changes coming later in the year,

• Simplification – Items will now be much more simplified and streamlined. For example, the Burst AP item will provide only Ability Power and Magic Penetration and have fewer extra stats such as Movement Speed.
• Item Efficiency – The current Legendary items provide too much power and too many stats. So Riot is looking to strip down some of its power by removing some stats from the items.
• Tank Items – Riot feels the current take items are lackluster. Thus they are making take items worthwhile for tanks and even durable classes such as Divers and Juggernauts.
• Nerfing Legendary Items – As stated by Riot multiple times Legendary Items are way too strong at their current state. So, Riot is going to nerf 95% of the Legendary Items in the game.

These are all the changes Riot has announced. We will update it as soon as more information is available.

Release Date

The exact release date of the Item changes has not been revealed but according to Riot, it will be coming sometime after Patch 13.19.
