Riot Provides Update For Skarner VGU In League of Legends 2024

After waiting for a long time, Riot has provided some updates for Skarner VGU in League of Legends.

League of Legends is almost 15 years old. Since then, we have received so many unique champions. And one of the earliest champions is Skarner.

Skarner was released in 2011. And even during that time, he had a gimmicky kit. He was a difficult character to master compared to most champions. And because of that, he was very unpopular. Additionally, when Riot started to add a more complex champion who could provide more impact than Skarner, his pick rate dwindled even more. People who pick him nowadays only do it so that they can cheese the enemy team and bring them to Skarner’s turret using his ultimate.

That said, in 2021, Riot started a VGU poll to determine which champion would get a VGU. And the majority of the community voted for Skarner. Around that time, Riot confirmed that Skarner would get his VGU in 2022. Fast forward to 2022, and Riot still couldn’t figure out what to do with our crystal scorpion. So they decided to fully overhaul him, giving him new abilities, looks, and lore.

Recently, Riot released the season 2024 dev log. In it, they teased and showed off many upcoming contents. One of them was a good look at the upcoming Skarner VGU.

League of Legends: Skarner VGU

Last year, Riot already revealed Skarner’s abilities and how they would work. In the newest dev log, they have revealed his lore, dance animation, current development state, and release date. So let’s talk about them one by one.

New Skarner Lore

According to Riot, Skarner was one of the founding members of the Yun Tal, the ruling caste of Ixtal. And with his help, Ixtal managed to become a prosperous region. However, he is very suspicious of the outside world and won’t hesitate to destroy intruders. For this reason, Ixtal is isolated in the Runeterra universe.

While they didn’t discuss it, Riot gave Skarner’s animation a huge glow-up. Most notably, his dance animation is now the popular Crab Rave dance. This animation will be as iconic as the original dance itself.

As for his current state, he is almost completed. Now, he is in the “polishing up” state. And Riot has also confirmed that he will be released in the first half of 2024. So we can anticipate to get him very soon.

The only thing Riot didn’t show is Skarner’s skins. But as to how well everything else is going, we can expect that to be fine as well.
