Apex Legends’ Switch to Javelin Under Scrutiny After Fresh Cheating Reports

  • Administrators

Apex Legends is facing fresh cheating reports just days after introducing EA Javelin Anticheat on PC. Reports describe blatant cheating in high-level Ranked matches, including speed hacks and entire squads being wiped out with a single shot.

The timing is frustrating for players hoping the anti-cheat switch would improve Ranked. Javelin went live on September 29, putting these reports within its first week in Apex.

In brief

  • HYPERMYST has reported blatant cheating in high-level Apex Legends Ranked games.
  • The reported cheats include single-shot squad wipes and speed hacks.
  • EA Javelin Anticheat launched on PC on September 29, replacing Easy Anti-Cheat.

Apex Legends Ranked Reports Include Speed Hacks and Single-Shot Squad Wipes

Apex Legends new anticheat detection

According to the post shared by HYPERMYST, cheaters are appearing in high-level Ranked lobbies with cheats capable of ending fights almost instantly.

The reported behavior includes wiping an entire squad with one shot and using speed hacks. In Ranked, losing a match to that kind of cheating can undo progress before a team has a reasonable chance to fight back.

The report raises questions about how quickly these cheats can be detected and stopped. However, it does not establish how widespread they are or whether cheating has increased since the switch.

EA Javelin Anticheat Launched Less Than a Week Ago

Respawn announced the move to Javelin on September 24, with the PC rollout taking effect on September 29. The developer said the change would give its anti-cheat teams better visibility into emerging threats and more flexibility to improve detections as cheats evolve.

Players climbing through Ranked will judge the update by how often cheating disrupts their matches and how quickly offending accounts are removed.

Respawn has also taken action against a separate exploit involving Ballistic’s Sling passive that allowed a modified client to crash servers. In its October 1 update, the team confirmed a fix, a permanent ban for the investigated player, and enforcement against other accounts using that exploit. That announcement addressed server crashes, rather than the cheats described in HYPERMYST’s latest report.
