Administrators COSMIN Posted July 16, 2020 Administrators Posted July 16, 2020 Overview: Title: Borderlands 3 Developer: Gearbox Software Publisher: 2K Games Release Date: September 13, 2019 Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia Genre: First-Person Shooter (FPS), Action RPG, Looter-Shooter Verdict (8.5/10) Borderlands 3 delivers explosive action, hilarious writing, and an absurd amount of loot—but sticks too closely to its chaotic formula to truly evolve the franchise. Pros: Massive arsenal of weapons – Millions of procedurally generated guns, each with their own quirks and elemental types. Fast-paced combat – Fluid movement, sliding, and tight gunplay make it a joy to fight enemies. Distinct playable characters – Four diverse Vault Hunters with unique skill trees and playstyles. Strong co-op support – Online and local split-screen co-op is well-executed. Stylized visuals – Classic cel-shaded art style looks sharp and vibrant, especially in 4K. Endgame content – Mayhem Mode, Circle of Slaughter, and True Vault Hunter Mode add replayability. Cons: Repetitive missions – Many quests feel like variations of "go there, shoot this, fetch that." Cringe-worthy humor (at times) – While funny overall, some jokes fall flat or overstay their welcome. Weak main villains – The Calypso Twins aren't as iconic or menacing as Handsome Jack from BL2. UI/optimization issues – Especially at launch, the menus were laggy and performance was inconsistent (mostly fixed by now). Gameplay & Mechanics: Loot, loot, and more loot. Expect a ridiculous number of guns, grenades, shields, and class mods. Skill Trees & Builds: Each Vault Hunter (Zane, Amara, FL4K, Moze) has three skill trees, offering deep customization. Gunplay: Tight, satisfying shooting, with every weapon manufacturer offering unique mechanics (e.g., Tediore guns you throw like grenades). World & Story: Multiple Planets: Unlike previous games, BL3 takes you across the galaxy—from swampy Eden-6 to high-tech Promethea. Storyline: You fight against livestreaming cult leaders (Tyreen and Troy Calypso) while uncovering the secrets of the Vaults. Side Quests: Often more entertaining than the main quest, full of pop culture references and goofy characters. Expansions & DLCs: Borderlands 3 has some excellent story DLCs: Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot – A casino heist gone wild. Guns, Love, and Tentacles – A gothic wedding with eldritch horror vibes. Bounty of Blood – Western-themed adventure with a slick narrator. Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck – Pure chaos inside the mind of a psycho. Each DLC adds several hours of content and some of the best writing and design in the series. Final Thoughts: If you loved Borderlands 2, you'll feel right at home here. Borderlands 3 is bigger, faster, louder—but not necessarily smarter. It doesn't revolutionize the franchise, but it refines what fans already love. For solo players, it's a solid shooter-RPG hybrid. For co-op players, it’s one of the most fun multiplayer loot-fests out there.
